It
is founded with the name Phoinikos at the entrance of
Aykırı (Arykandos) Brook in the 5th century B.C. It
is supposed that the name ‘Finike’ comes from the Phoenicians
who used the region as a trade centre. Limyra, the capital
city of the region, was known as the harbour where the
export of its agricultural produces was carried out.
